When
Peter and I went roller skating, it made me head over heels in love with him. I
wish I was with him right now. That Friday I was planning to tell Pete that we
could no longer see each other. I felt so good about myself that day. When I
got to school, I walked to my locker. Peter was there talking to his friends,
and waiting for me. I swear, Peter was as loyal as a golden retriever. Peter
looked at me, and smiled. “Hey babe,” he said.
“Hi,”
I said in a cheerful tone.
“Oh,
well someone is in a good mood,” said Peter’s friend.
“Leah,
I don’t think you have met my friends,” said Peter.
I
had a puzzled look on my face. “No, I don’t think I have.”
“This
is Parker, and Ethan.”
Parker
was tall, dark red hair, the greenest eyes, and was built. That boy had some
pretty great muscles, from what I remember. Ethan, well he was average size. He
was still pretty cute though. He had blond hair and eyes like the ocean.
“Hello,”
I said with a smile, to both of the boys.
“Hi,”
they both said to me.”
“I
gotta get to class. I’ll see you later. Bye, Peter. I love you.”
“Bye,
I love you too,” Peter said, then kissed me good bye.
I
remember for the first half of that day, all I could think about was what I was
going to say to Pete. Also, if I was going to tell Peter about Pete and I.
While I was walking to the cafeteria, I was wondering if I should just ditch. I
walked nervously over to Peter, and told him that I needed to go talk to Pete,
so I would see him when we were done talking.
Peter
was completely fine with the fact that I was going to talk to Peter, and not
stay there and talk to him. He was never nosy, questioning, too curious, or too
protective of me. He was the perfect boyfriend. I walked over to Pete, Roxy,
and June. “Hey guys,” I said, still happy.
“Hello,
Leah,” June said with a smile.
“Hey,”
said Pete.
“Hi,”
said Roxy.
“Hey,
Pete. Can I, uh, talk to you for a sec?”
“Here,
or in private,” he asked.
“Private,”
I answered.
“Oh,
are you guys going to have a little make out session,” Roxy said, teasing.
I
gave her a dirty look. “Come on, Pete.”
“Okay,”
He said, pleased.
We
walked out of the cafeteria, and down the hall, so no one could hear or see us.
“Okay, Pete. I,” was all I got out to say.”
Pete
would not let me talk; all he did was kiss me. I did not even want to kiss him
that time! He just pushed me against the lockers, and started kissing me. I did
not like it one bit, so I pushed him off of me. “God dammit, Pete,” I said, and
then walked away.
I
walked back into the cafeteria, and looked for Peter. He was with his friends,
so I went to go sit with them. I walking towards them, and Peter’s back was
towards me. “And here’s Mrs. Mendez now,” Parker said as he saw me coming.
I
sat down next to Peter, and kissed him right away. “Hi,” I said with a smile.
“Hey,”
Peter said.
Peter
sounded kind of upset. “Are you okay,” I asked.
“Yeah,
I’m fine.”
“No,
he’s not. He’s mad that you won’t put out,” Ethan said laughing.
“You
know, Ethan. You should really shut the hell up, before I come over there, and
shove your own foot in your ass,” I said sweetly.
“Burn,”
Parker shouted.
I
got Peter to smile, so that made me happy. “You’re just jealous,” said Ethan.
“Oh,
I’m just jealous? Of what,” I asked.
Ethan
had started to say something, but I cut him off. “Yeah, I am so jealous of you, because you’re an
inconsiderate jerk, and an asshole to your friend’s girlfriend!”
Both Peter and Parker started laughing. “Dude,” said
Parker. “Where did you find her? Seriously, where can I find one? She’s hot,
funny, and she can curse a guy out!”
Peter
laughed, “Sorry, Parker. She is an original, and all mine.”
He
smiled, and put his arms around me. “Okay, so you guys still coming over
tonight,” Peter asked his friends.
They
both said yes. “What’s going on tonight,” I asked.
“They
guys are going to come over, and hang out tonight. You don’t mind, do you?”
“Oh,”
I said. “No, of course not. I’m going to hang out with Roxy tonight, anyways,”
I lied.
“Peter,
don’t lie to her. Leah, he’s lying. We’re going to the strip club,” said Ethan,
laughing.
“That’s
okay. Roxy and I are gonna go see some male dances,” I said.
“Perfect,”
said Ethan. “Everyone will be happy!”
The
bell rang after Peter got done talking. “Okay, I better go. Bye babe,” I said.
“Love
you,” said Peter.
He
kissed me. “I love you too,” I said.
I
was walking with Roxy and June to the lockers. “Hey, do you guys want to hang
out tonight,” I asked.
“I
can’t, I have plans with my dad,” said June.
“I
can, but do you mind if Pete comes along,” said Roxy.
“No,
not at all,” I lied.
“Okay.
Mall after school, and then my house?”
“I
can’t go to your house after. How about I sleep over on my birthday next week,
and we go to the mall today?”
“Perfect,”
Roxy said with a smile.
After
school, I met up with Roxy and Pete at the mall. Roxy wanted to get a new
dress, so we went to Windsor. I kept telling myself that I was not going to
kiss, Pete. “Why do you need a new dress,” I asked Roxy as we walked around the
store.
“I
don’t,” she said. “I just want one.”
“Oh,
Pete did you not have any friends to hang out with today,” I teased.
“No,
but I rather be here with you,” He said, attempting to flirt with me.
“Are
you going to get a dress,” Roxy asked.
“No,
I don’t think so.”
“Why
not?”
“I
don’t really wear dresses.”
“Here,”
Roxy handed me a dress. “It’s a size 3, it looks like it should fit you.”
“Are
you sure? It’s red. Almost no one looks good in a red dress.”
“Yes,
but the red will look good with your dark hair.”
“Uh,
okay,” I said nervously.
Roxy
sent me to the dressing room with the dress. The dress was red, strapless, and
had a big red bow on the chest. When I tried it on, I was quite surprised. The
dress actually looked great on me. Roxy came and knocked on the door. “Come on
out, and show us the dress,” she said.”
I
walked out of the dressing room, and over to Pete and Roxy. “Oh my god,” said
Roxy. “You look amazing! I am buying that for you as a birthday present. Pete,
doesn’t she look amazing?”
“She
looks beautiful, as always,” said Pete.
“Thank
you,” I said, blushing. “Roxy, you don’t have to buy me this.”
“Yes
I do. When something looks that good on you, and your birthday is coming up,
that means I have to buy it for you,” Roxy said with a grin.
“Really,”
I asked.
“Yes!”
“Okay,”
I smiled. “I’m going to change.”
When
I was changing back into my clothes, I heard a knock on the door. I opened the
door, and it was Pete. He pushed the door wide open, and came into the dressing
room. All I had on were my bra and shorts. “Um, can I help you,” I asked.
“I
love you,” said Pete.
“Pete,
I have a…”
Then
he pressed himself against me, and kissed me. I could not stop him. The longer
he kissed me, the more I wanted him. After a while I pulled away to find out
that we had been there for almost half an hour.
“It’s
almost 5:00pm, I should go,” I said.
“No.
Will you please stay?”
“No,
I have to go. I’ll see you Monday.”
I
walked out of the dressing room. “Hey Roxy, I have to go, I’ll see you Monday,
okay?”
“Okay,”
she said. “Where’s the dress?”
“Right
here,” I said as I handed her the dress.
“See
ya Monday,” she said.
“Thank
you, again.”
Saturday,
May 11,
2008
That
Saturday, I did not do much, it was not a bad day. I got to see Peter! When I
woke up it was about 10:00am. I was surprised that I slept in that late. My
phone was what woke me up. I remember my ringtone was, Teardrops On My Guitar
by Taylor Swift.
“Hello,”
I said into the phone.
“Hey
beautiful,” said Peter.
I
smiled. “Hey babe. What’s up?”
“Nothing.
I’m just thinking about my amazing girlfriend. How about yourself?”
“I
just woke up,” I said while yawning.
“What
are you doing today?”
“Nothing
that I know of, why?”
“Would
you like to go to Boomers tonight?”
“Yes,”
I said. “ I love that place!”
“I’ll
pick you up about six, okay?”
“Sounds
great.”
“See
you later, I love you,” said Peter.
“I
love you too,” I said before I hung up.
After
I hung up, I walked around the house, and tried to keep myself productive. Over
the next few hours I: showered, did my hair, makeup, got dressed, and cleaned
around the house.
I
was sitting in the living room, reading and waiting for my mom and Tyler to
leave. But with just my luck, they were staying home that night. “What’re you
reading, Leah,” My mom asked as she walked into the room.
“Romeo
and Juliet,” I answered.
“You
doing anything tonight?”
“Yeah,
I’m going to Boomers with my friend, Peter.”
“Who’s
Peter,” She asked sternly.
“A
friend from school,” I answered.
“Is
he picking you up, or are you meeting him there?”
“He’s
picking me up.”
“I
want to meet him.”
“Okay,”
I said. “He should be here soon.”
“Tell
me about him,” Mom said as she sat down.
I
remember thinking how weird it was for her to be asking about him. She never
sat down, and just talked to me. “Well, his name is Peter. He’s really cute,
smart, funny, and he is very sweet.”
“Hmm,
sounds like you like this boy.”
“Yes,
I do,” I said shyly.
“Does
he like you back?”
“Uh,
yeah. Yes, he does.”
“Are
you guys dating,” she asked curiously.
“No,
but I think that’s why we’re going out tonight. I think he’s going to ask me to
be his girlfriend,” I said with a smile.
“Oh,”
said mom. “Well, that’s good.”
The
doorbell finally rang, and Peter was there. I remember how I anxious I was for
my mom to meet him. I went to go answer the door. “Hey, Peter,” I said.
“Hi,”
he said with a smile.
“Come
on in, my mom wants to meet you.”
“Okay,”
he said as he walked in.
“Hello
Peter. I’m Isabella,” my mom said.
I
almost forgot what her nice voice sounded like. It would only ever come out
when she was meeting new people. “Hello Isabella,” said Peter.
“So
where are you planning to take my daughter tonight?”
“Boomers.”
“What
time will you have her home by?”
“What
time is her curfew?”
“Have
her home by 10:30pm, alright?”
“Yes
ma’am.”
“Don’t
call me ma’am,” mom laughed. “I’m not an old lady, call me Isabella.”
“Okay,
Isabella,” said Peter.
“Okay,
you two can go now.”
“Bye,”
Peter said.
I
was about to walk out the door, but then my mom asked me to walk over to her.
“Yeah,” I asked.
“No
matter what he says, do not let him pressure you, okay?”
I
laughed. “Yes, mom.”
“I’m
serious,” she said with her angry voice.
“I
know. I am not going to do anything I don’t want to do.”
“Good,”
she said sternly.
“Okay,
I’m going to go now. Bye mom.”
“Bye,
Leah.”
As
soon as I was about to shut the door behind me, my mom caught my attention.
“Leah,” she said once more.
I
turned around. “Yeah, mom?”
“I
love you,” she said.
I
smiled. “I love you too mommy.”
I
walked back to Peter with a huge smile on my face. “What are you so happy
about? What did she say to you?”
“She,
she told me that she loves me,” I said as I got into the car.
“Does
that surprise you?”
“Babe,
she has not said that to me in years.”
“Are
you kidding me?”
I
shook my head. “That’s great, babe,” said Peter.
“I
know!”
“So,
are you ready for Boomers?”
“Of
course!”
It
did not take long to get to Boomers from my house. When we got there, we
decided to play a round of mini golf. “Okay,” I said. “We have four hours.
Let’s gets started.”
“Do
you want to go first,” asked Peter.
“No,
it’s okay. Go ahead.”
Peter
hit the ball, and it was almost perfect. He almost hit a whole in one! I
remember how surprised I was. “Your turn,” he said.
I
was walking over to set my ball down on the ground, and then I just decided to
cheat. “Hey, uh, would you mind if I cheated at this game?”
“Are
you serious,” Peter asked, laughing.
I
started laughing, “Yes!”
“Go
ahead,” he said.
So,
instead of hitting the ball with the golf club, I picked it up, and I threw it.
It landed right next to Peter’s ball. “Wow!”
“I
know,” I said. “Cheating at this game is always better, and a lot more
entertaining.”
“I
can tell.”
“So,
are you still going by the rules, or are you going to cheat with me?”
“By
the rules, of course.
“But
that’s no fun!”
“No,
but its fair!”
“Whatever,”
I laughed.
Peter
hit the ball, and missed the hole. I started laughing at him. So, then I just
kicked my ball, and made it in the hole. “So, no cheating still?”
“Yeah,
let’s go with the cheating,” Peter said, laughing as kicked his ball in the
hole.
“Let’s
go to the next one.”
When
we got to the next hole, I was very glad we decided to cheat. The hole went
downhill, had a strip of metal down the middle, and just looked very
complicated. “I am so glad we’re cheating,” I giggled.
“Me
too,” said Peter as he threw the ball.”
Peter’s
ball landed around the hole, but not very close. Then, I threw mine, and it got
closer than his. “How do you throw so well,” Peter asked.
“My
brother taught me how to throw when I was younger.”
“Awesome,”
said Peter. “Have you heard from him lately?”
“No,
I’m hoping he’ll call on my birthday.”
We
started walking to the next hole. “I’m sure he’ll call,” said Peter.
“Hopefully.”
When
we got to the third hole, we just stood there in silence. I was really upset
about my brother. “Leah?”
I looked
up at Peter. He kissed me, and that kiss was one of the best. I could feel the
sensation throughout my entire body. “Leah, I love you more than you will ever
know. I will never let anything happen to you. It’s just you and me. Forever
and ever.”
“I love
you,” I said. “Forever and ever.”
I
remember I started tearing up. I wasn’t crying, I was just getting some tears.
Peter wiped the tears from my face, and kissed me again. I miss him. I miss his
eyes, his smile, his hugs, his laugh, and his kisses. We stood there kissing
for a little bit. “Leah, I love you.”
I
smiled. “I love you too, Peter.”
Whenever
I was with Peter, Pete did not even cross my mind. “What time is it,” I asked.
“Hold
on. Let me check,” said Peter. “It’s about 8:00pm.”
“I’m
hungry. Wanna go inside and eat?”
“Okay,
let’s go.”
As
we got inside, I had a feeling that Peter was still upset. “Hey babe, what’s
wrong,” I asked after we ordered our food.
“Nothing,
why?”
“Something
just seems wrong. I know something was wrong at school the other day. So, are
you going to tell me, or just keep me guessing?”
“Leah,
nothing is wrong,” Peter lied.
I
have no clue why he bothered to lie to me. “Thanks for lying, let me know when
you feel like telling me the truth.”
I
stood up, and started to walk out of the place. “Leah,” I heard his voice
calling for me.
“Leah,”
Peter said again.
I
was just getting to the exit, then I felt Peter grab my arm. I tried to pull my
arm away, and leave. But then he turned me around, and kissed me.
He
pulled away. “I love you, Leah. I’m sorry that I’ve been lying to you. Do you
really want to know what’s been on my mind?”
“Yes,”
I said.
“Okay,
but you have to come sit down, and not walk out on me again. Okay?”
“Okay,
but how do I know that you’re not going to tell me another lie? I tried to ask
you at school, and I just got a smart ass comment from your friend about not
putting out. I tried to ask you tonight, and you just lied to me. So, what’s it
going to be? If you lie to me again, there is no more you and me. So, tell me
truth, and I won’t walk out on you again,” I said, frustrated.
“If
you just come sit down, I promise you that I will tell you everything, and I
not ever lie to you again.”
“Okay,”
I said, trying my best to not give in so quickly.
“Come
sit.”
We
walked back over to our table, and sat down. He just sat there, and stared at
me. “Okay,” I said. “Talk.”
“Well,”
he said. “One day when you were sick, and weren’t at school, your friend June
came to talk to me. And…”
I
interrupted him before he could finish, “Did you cheat on me,” I said, on the
verge of crying.
“Just
let me talk, Leah.”
I
nodded. “June came up to me, and started talking to me. She told me that you
were cheating on me, and I believed her. But I don’t anymore. She would never
tell me with who though. I was so mad at you. She convinced me with such an
awful lie. She told me that she knew a good way to get back at you. So, I
listened to her, because I was willing to do anything to get back at you.”
“What
did you do,” I asked through my tears.
“I
went to her house that night,” said Peter. “I had sex with her.”
I
had heard enough. I said I would not walk away, but I think I had the right to.
I tried to walk as fast as I could to get as far away from him as possible. I
still was not fast enough though. He grabbed my hand, and pulled me over to the
counter. “Excuse me, do you have a microphone,” Peter asked the lady behind the
counter.
“Yes,
but it’s for employees only.”
“Please?
If you don’t let me use it, I might lose the love of my life, because I screwed
up. Please, let me use it.”
The
lady saw the pain in Peter’s eyes, and the pain in mine. “Here,” said the lady
as she handed him the microphone.
Peter
stood on top of the counter. I would not look him in the eyes. “Leah,” he said.
“Look at me, baby.”
I
looked up at him. “I want everyone in here to listen to what I have to say to
this girl, right here,” He said, and pointed to me.
“I
am deeply in love with her, and I made a mistake. I screwed up, and she may
never take me back. If she doesn’t, my life will never be complete without her,
and I don’t think hers will be complete without me, either. I want her to
forgive me. I don’t ever want to see her cry, like she did tonight. I don’t
ever want to see this pain in her eyes again. I would do absolutely anything to
be with her forever, and for her to forgive me. I want her back. I want her in
my arms. I want her to love me. Leah. Baby, I will love you more than you will
ever know.”
Peter
got off the counter, and stood right in front of me. “I want to be with you,
forever and ever, remember? Just you and me. I want to grow old with you. I
want to have kids with you. I want to love you.”
Peter
got down on one knee, “And most importantly, I want to marry you Leah Abigail
Night. Will you please marry me?”
The
boy had a ring, and everything. I was standing there in awe. I could not
believe it. The man I loved proposed to me, but he also cheated on me. I had no
idea what to say.
It
was as if the people around us could read my thoughts, “Say yes,” someone from
the crowd said.
“Yeah!
Say yes to him,” said another.
A
smile grew on my face, and my tears were no longer said, they were happy. “Yes.
Yes, I’ll marry you!”
Peter
stood up, and kissed me. After he pulled away, he said, “Leah, I am so sorry. I
was stupid, I promise you, it will never happen again.”
“It’s
fine,” I said. “After all you just went through, I don’t think I could ever say
no to you. I love you, Peter.”
“I
love you too,” said Peter. “So, uh, are you going to wear the ring?”
“Yes,
but not at home,” I laughed. “My mom thinks this was our first date.”
“Speaking
of your mom, I should probably get you home soon.”
“Okay,
let’s go.”
That
night I was happy, pissed off, and extremely excited. I was proposed to that
night, I and I thought that I was going to get married in the next few years.
Well, I was wrong, wasn’t I? While we were walking to the car, I could not stop
thinking about my future wedding day. I also could not get the image of Peter
and June outside of my head.
As
we were getting into the car, I could not stop myself from asking him
something. “Peter,” I said.
“Yes,”
He said as started the car.
“Why
did you do it?”
The
moment the words came out of my mouth, I knew they were a mistake. “Do what?”
“You
know what I’m talking about. Just please. Tell me. Why did you give in to her?”
“Really?
Do we have to talk about this now? We just got engaged, Leah.”
“If
we don’t talk now, then we’re talking Monday at school.”
“Monday,”
he said as we pulled up to my house.
“Okay,”
I said.
I
was about to get out of the car, but I was stopped by Peter’s voice. “Leah,” he
said.
I
turned around. “What?”
“I
love you. You know that right?”
“I
don’t know what to believe right now. I’ll see you Monday. Good bye, Peter.”
I
got out of the car, and went inside before he could say anything else. I ran
inside as fast as he could. I remember tears were starting to stream down my
face. I walked into the house, and my mom and Tyler were in the living room,
watching a movie. They didn’t even notice me.
“Leah,
is that you,” mom asked.
Well,
I thought they didn’t notice me. “Yeah,” I said. “What movie are you guys
watching?”
“The
Titanic.”
“Where
was she,” Tyler asked mom.
“She
went out on a date,” mom answered.
“I
thought we agreed, no dating until you’re sixteen?”
“We
did. But, if you haven’t noticed the date, my birthday is next week. I’ll be
sixteen,” I said.
“Oh,
Tyler, she’s fine. I met the boy, he’s nice,” mom said.
That
was when everything went wrong again. “Yeah, mom met him. Everything is fine.”
“You
shut the hell up, Leah,” said Tyler. “Isabella! She’s not supposed to date yet!
Why did you give in like that? She is going to be walking all over you!”
“Don’t
you dare talk to my daughter that way,” mom shouted. “You know, she was right
about you all along. You are an asshole, and are going nowhere in life! I don’t
even know why I’m with you anymore. You know what, Tyler? We are done! I want
you out of my life forever!”
I
had no clue what to do. I was only fifteen! I had never seen a fight like that
before.
“You
want me out of your life? Fine. Then who is supposed to go? Me, or you and the
girl,” said Tyler.
He
said “the girl” with so much disgust in his voice, it was sickening.
“The
girl! That girl just so happens to be my daughter, and that is the last time
you’ll talk to her, or about her like that! You have got to be out of your mind
to think that I am going to be the one leaving. So, go. Leave. Now!”
I
was so happy that mom said all of that stuff to Tyler. She had finally stood up
for herself. She had finally stood up for me.
After
my mom got done yelling at him, she went upstairs and threw all of his stuff
out. However, Tyler was already gone by the time she went upstairs. She came
downstairs after she was done throwing out his clothes. “Where did he go,” she
asked.
“No
clue. He left by the time you went upstairs. Are you okay?”
“I
will be. But are you okay?”
Mom
came over to me, and hugged me. While we were hugging, I was thinking about how
happy she and I would be from then on. “I’m fine. I am so proud of you for
finally standing up to him,” I said as she let go of me.
“I can’t
even begin to tell you how good that felt. I’m so happy that I finally did
this.”
“Me
too,” I said, smiling.
“It’s
just going to be you and me for a while. How does that sound,” said mom in a
tone that I had never heard before.
“Sounds
great,” I said.
“Okay,
Leah. You should probably go to bed now.”
“Good
night.”
My
mom just sat there, at the counter. She was staring off into space. I never
knew if she really was okay. I started walking up the stairs to get to my room.
I stopped at the top of the stairs, and said, “I love you, mom.”
“I
love you too, baby girl.”
That
night was absolutely insane. So many crazy things happened. I remember I went
straight to bed after saying good night to my mom.
That
night my mom met my boyfriend. That night my boyfriend told me he cheated on
me. That night my boyfriend proposed to me. That night my mom ended it with her
boyfriend. That night, my mother told me that she loves me.
